TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN
The Mater Private Hospital Laundry caters for the needs of the four Mater Hospitals and currently processes approx 40 tonne of linen per week. We were recently approached to test wash a new concept in medical sheep skins developed by the CSIRO Division of Wool Technology.
We were asked to process the item as infected linen requiring wash temperatures in excess of 8OoC and normal drying temperatures in the area of lOO°C as well as the chemical injections appropriate to adequate chemical disinfection.
The skin was processed 11 times and the results have been most satisfactory. Apart from minor discolouration in a small area on one edge the skin is in excellent condition. The back remains soft and pliable and there are no signs of wool roughness or matting on the face of the product. We would see the product as having distinct advantages in many areas of health care.
